Think Before You Retire
As a retiree of two years, I'm coming to realise that retirement isn't all it's cracked up to be. Why Not? Because if you haven't planned your retirement carefully, then you'll find that it doesn't live up to your expectations. There are several reasons for this:
1. You haven't got enough to keep yourself occupied.
2. You don't have enough stimulation for your brain.
3. Surprisingly, you may find that you miss your job.
4. Your income is, in all probability, less than you would like. Think very carefully when planning your life after work. It may seem that you will really enjoy having nothing to do, however, it may not be as attractive a prospect as you now think it is. Of course, income is a big part of this - if your income is insufficient for your lifestyle needs, then your won't be able to enjoy your leisure time as much as you'd like. Do try to ensure that you have some interests which will take you out of the house. Social contact is important. Also important is having mental stimulation. Keep learning things, do a short course, find a discussion group to join, anything that you like, but do something! If you find yourself missing your job, you can either get a part time job in your industry, or perhaps become a volunteer for one of the many charities in your area. They'll probably welcome you with open arms. If you are coming up to retirement age, then start planning for it right now. Even if it's a few years off, it's not too early to do your financial planning. The earlier you start the better. Enjoy your retirement.
