I Really Love Pet Snakes !

Some of my friends and family think I'm a real weirdo, because I genuinely love snakes. Since I was a teenager, I've wanted to have one, but the rest of the family didn't agree! Now, many years later, I finally have my pet snakes - yes, snakes plural. After I'd had my first little python, a Morelia stimsoni, one just wasn't enough, so I bought him a mate. A couple of years after that, I fell in love with a Centralian python at the local reptile shop, so took him home with me as well. Later I bought him a mate too, but she didn't last with us, because her temperament was really vicious. She was exchanged for another female Stimson's python, so my little male had a harem. Would very much like to find a suitable mate for the Centralian, because he has such a beautiful nature, not to mention his colour and markings. Perhaps one day I'll find someone nearby who is willing to breed their female to my guy. I'm sure he'd love that! ;-) If you're interested in keeping snakes, it's important to do your research first. Find out about the types of reptile available to you, their requirements, and in fact, everything you can discover about their care. Make sure there is a hide for your reptile in its cage - reptiles are frequently quite shy, and need a place to retreat into. Ensure also, that food for your pet is available in your area. Frozen food is best, as live feeding is not recommended, or even legal in some states. Set up your snake's home before you acquire the animal, and when you do bring it home, give it a few days to settle in, before you handle it too much. If you do all this, you'll find that you'll have a happy and healthy pet snake, who trusts you, and is happy to entwine itself around you as you watch TV or read - mine do! |
